Project Detail :Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari said that the expansion work of the Mumbai-Goa highway would be completed and it would be opened for public before March 2019. He said the highway would be made a green one by planting readymade eight to nine-year-old grown trees along the road

“Mumbai-Goa highway expansion works of all the packages have started. We are trying to complete the work by March end, except the tunnel in Tasheri ghat. That tunnel will take time. Many trees will now be cut in the road widening works. Now you get trees which are already eight to nine years old readymade. They can be planted and the highway can be made a green highway,” Gadkari said

He said that social organisations, educational institutions and NGOs can be involved in the work

He is in Goa on a two-day visit to review progress of under his ministry and NHAI across states worth more than Rs 100 crore

Gadkari said that it is important to complete the projects as per schedule so that there is no escalation of cost, as well as so that people are relieved of the problems they face due to ongoing construction works on roads

“We need cooperation from state government. Land acquisition is a big task. We expect cooperation from all stakeholders because time is very important,” said Gadkari
