| Project Detail : | There have been a number of projects, such as Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), Urban Haat and garbage dump, in limbo. Residents await revival of these projects but the government apathy leaves them dismayed Despite several meetings, there has been no change in the status of the BRTS project. Metro buses run on two incomplete routes. These have failed to attract passengers so the operating company is not able to shell out money for fuel and salaries of employees Initially, Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had shown concern and conducted high-level meetings to revive the BRTS but nothing concrete has come out. The government had spent around Rs 580 crore on the BRTS project. Besides, it had resulted in a major loss to the green belt MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla had announced to spare funds to the tune of Rs 50 lakh to plant trees on key routes of the holy city. But the administration has failed to do the needful The government had also decided to shift the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) to the city outskirts as the roads near it witnessed frequent traffic jams. But nothing has been done in this direction The Urban Haat is another multi-crore project which is being ignored by the government Also several underbridges were proposed to ease the traffic flow but no such development work has been started till date Congress leaders had made promises before the Assembly elections to deal with the aforesaid issues at the earliest. Another promise they had made was the establishment of a solid waste management but the government has not even identified any site for this project When contacted, MLA (North) Sunil Kumar Dutti said, “These projects are in the pipeline and work will be started soon. Some of these works are being conducted under the Smart City project. We have received Rs 25 crore from the Central Government. I promise that the residents will observe a change in the second year of the government |
