| Project Detail : | With Kala Amb industrial town figuring on the list of non-attainment cities where the air pollution parameters are not in conformity with the National Ambient Air Quality norms, officials of the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) are preparing an action plan to mitigate air pollution As per the report of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the limit of PM 10 is much higher than the permissible limit and this has placed this industrial town on the list of non-attainment cities The CPCB had directed the officials of the SPCB to prepare an in-depth action plan to control air pollution and ensure that the pollution norms were within the permissible limit Regional Officer, SPCB, Avinash Sharda, said various stakeholders, including the civic bodies, industry associations, the HRTC, PWD, etc, had been directed to prepare their action plans to address the problem Though a meeting had been convened some months ago with these officials they were yet to submit any department specific action plan He added that they were finalising action plan to ensure that the laid parameters could be abided by. This required a coordinated approach of all stakeholders Since poor roads and presence of large number of vehicles also contribute to the air pollution, proposals like introducing electrical buses on a trial buses was also been explored by the HRTC. In the absence of regular repair and maintenance of the roads, their wear and tear due to plying of heavy vehicles was more Other issues like unscientific disposal of industrial waste had also emerged as a key issue leading to pollution in this industrial belt. With the activity of scrap collection failing to be organised they often burnt the left-over waste which could not be sold and too contributed to air pollution |
