| Project Detail : | The Department of Coir Development has inked a Rs. 120-crore contract with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and grama panchayats to promote the use of coir geotex in water and soil conservation projects taken up by the local bodies The agreement was signed at the Coir Kerala Festival, Alappuzha, in the presence of over 700 panchayat presidents and officials. The project would be implemented under the Haritha Kerala Mission Inaugurating an Open House, Minister for Water Resources Mathew T. Thomas said the increased use of geotex in soil and water conservation projects would provide an impetus for the coir industry. He said the Irrigation Department would use geotex to line the sides of canals and check coastal erosion The Thrikkunnapuzha panchayat in Alappuzha signed the biggest contract of Rs. 2.14 crore to use 3,30,769 sq ft of geotex A heritage museum for the coir industry in Kerala would be set up in Alappuzha |
