Mani has said that the State would be declared totally electrified by the end of this month The Minister was addressing a public meeting near the municipal bus stand here, after declaring Pathanamthitta district completely electrified, on Saturday afternoon He said there was considerable reduction in power generation in the State owing to the poor rainfall. The power generation in the State was only 30 % of its total electricity demand and the remaining power was being purchased from outside, besides the limited allocation from the Central pool, he said However, the government was particular that there should not be any power disruption in any part of the State even at this juncture, the Minister said Mr. Mani said as many as 1,49,000 new electricity connections have been provided across the State as part of the government’s total electrification drive He said 75 % of the fund required for providing power connection to families belonging to the Scheduled Tribe and Scheduled Caste sections have been released by the respective welfare departments to the KSEB Mr. Mani said the government’s policy was to utilise all available sources of power generation in the State. The abruptly stopped power projects like the Pallivasal extension project, Chengalam augmentation project, Mankulam project, Thottiyar project, Chathankottunada project, would be resumed with a view to generate maximum possible power in the State, he said The Minister said the government would take a decision on the Kayamkulam thermal power plant, soon Veena George, MLA, presided over the meeting.
